Biography

Dr. Giuseppe Remuzzi is a prominent Italian nephrologist, renowned for his work in kidney diseases, particularly in glomerulonephritis and transplant rejection. He serves as the Director of the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research and holds the "Chiara Fama" Chair of Nephrology at the University of Milan. His research has significantly contributed to understanding the pathophysiology of kidney diseases and the progressive loss of kidney function.

Remuzzi's career spans decades, starting from his medical training at the University of Pavia and his specialty in Nephrology at the University of Milan. Over the years, he has held key roles in prominent institutions, including Chief of Nephrology at Bergamo Hospital and Director of its Department of Medicine. His laboratory at the Mario Negri Institute has been instrumental in studying human renal diseases and the mechanisms behind kidney regeneration.

He has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the John P. Peters Award from the American Society of Nephrology in 2007 and the ISN AMGEN Award in 2011. His leadership extends to global nephrology, having served as the President of the International Society of Nephrology from 2013 to 2015. One of his major initiatives is the "0 by 25" project, aiming to eliminate preventable deaths from acute kidney injury by 2025 in developing countries.

Remuzzi is also a prolific author, having published hundreds of scientific articles and books on kidney disease. His impact on nephrology is not only scientific but also policy-driven, as he works to shape the future of kidney care globally.​
