Nephrotic Syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is a manifestation of glomerular disease that is characterizes by nephrotic range protein urea, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and generalized edema, it results from increased permeability of the Glomerular Basement Membrane to Plasma protein. It is a clinical and laboratory syndrome characterized by massive proteinuria. Etiologically it is classified as Primary and Secondary nephrotic syndromes, where only kidneys are involved in the primary syndrome (80-90% of all nephrotic syndrome) and the secondary involves the other organs of the body. Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome occurs soon after the child birth with symptoms of edema and proteinuria.
